A graduate of the University of Michigan Law School, Karen has practiced law in Ann Arbor, Michigan for over 30 years. Her practice focuses primarily on real estate and small business transactions. Karen has worked extensively with people buying, selling, exchanging, optioning, financing, developing, building, and leasing property. She has experience in handling a broad range of issues of concern to small business owners, including business formation, contract negotiations and disputes, and employment matters. In addition to her law practice, for more than 20 years, Karen has owned and operated Property Exchange Company, which serves as a qualified intermediary in 1031 exchanges.
Karen has been recognized for and is proud of her clear and concise legal writing. She has twice won Clarity Awards from the State Bar of Michigan. Among Karen’s publications are the following: Farmers: What is a 1031 exchange and how can you benefit from one?, Farmers’ Advance (December 2015); Section 1031 Exchanges of Vacation Homes, Michigan Bar Journal (August 2009); Chapters in the Michigan Causes of Action Formbook (ICLE, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2005, 2012); Chapter in Torts, Michigan Law and Practice (Torts to Interests in Property) (ICLE 2001, 2005). Karen is an active public servant, serving currently as a member of the Ann Arbor Township Planning Commission and formerly as a member of the Ann Arbor Township Zoning Board of Appeals. She also served as a board member and chair of the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Huron Valley. |
